How to Use Humanitarian Missions as Covers for Political Actions

It has been a common practice in several areas of the globe since ever. A bit the same way as the world powers use it as a way to project their power even further. In Foreign Affairs any territory with a “real politik” approach to the international relations regards humanitarian missions as a tool to aid in attaining certain objectives.

I have been watching the news about a so called Israel’s deadly raid on a Gaza-bound aid flotilla. I have collected as much news in the form of sound, video and writings as I can about the issue and frankly I have never seen such a mess. This is somewhat typical whenever we are in the presence of anything relating to middle east.

The first thing I found odd about this was the logistic operation by the “peaceful activists”. Usually, serious NGOs like the Red Cross/Crescent or even the UN humanitarian organizations, negotiate with the administrative power of a territory the delivery of humanitarian help. That way, when the convoys arrive at a certain area the authorities already know what’s all that about. That way the routes and actions are already accorded and predefined. It strikes me as odd that the “humanitarian help” didn’t know they were trying to navigate through a naval blockade. It also strikes me as odd that nothing in this convoy seemed prepared except for deliberate provocation time after time.

I organized the video footage chronologically and this is what I get from all the videos:

1. The flotilla arrives at an area of naval blockade. The entire world knows that area to be blocked for months. The “peaceful activists” don’t seem to know that. What kind of activists are these?? Poorly informed ones although this is supposed to be their subject matter of intervention? Right.

2. The Israeli navy warns by radio contact about the naval blockade.

3. Unfortunately I don’t have any video about the replies from the activists (I might as well stop calling them “peaceful”. We’ll see in a moment why).

4. The Israeli navy warns again about the blockade and suggests another route for the vessels! (implies the acceptance of the activists’ mission, only by another route).

5. The activists ignore the warnings and try to force the blockade and the Israeli navy warns they will take action against them if they proceed.

6. The next videos I see, depict Israeli’s marines boarding one of the vessels. On the deck there was already a crowd with iron clubs, chairs, sticks, knives and all sorts of weapons ready to receive the military. STOP EVERYTHING HERE! WTF???? “Peaceful” activists were already organized in a mob in a vessel to attack marines prior to the boarding????? Double WTF??? Let me get this straight… so, during all the time when the Israeli navy was discussing the whole affair with the captain of the ship what was he doing? Urging the activists to resist the possible boarding? Preparing them to attack military personnel??? The usual procedure is to warn everybody to stay put in their places, don’t offer resistance and then be there to negotiate with the military office in charge without putting the passangers at risk! Okay, enough said about the “peaceful” motives of these activists, let’s move forward.

7. Israeli navy storms one of the vessels, the reception committee starts a fierce attack with all the weapons available and throw a military overboard!!! This is order and peace at its best!  In one video one can see someone with a baby trolley (again, WTF??? What was the baby doing there in that sort of mission? Was there really a baby or a tipical poor show for the cameras? What kind of mother and father takes a baby in such a voyage???).

8. The marines strike back causing about 10 people to die.

9. Redactions of the major news networks and agencies start being flooded with incomplete, biased news about an unprovoked deadly raid from the Israeli’s against peace loving turkish organizations. The European Union starts the usual festivities of non-sense and the sad show of weakness and division.

9. Israeli releases the activists. They are so concerned with the peace mission they were supposed to take to good term that they make the “V” upon release. “V”?? Oh, really? So, you delivered the aid you were supposed after all? Or “V” as in “we achieved the goal of making everything a bigger mess than it was before? Again, not suspicious at all.

It’s a pitty and a shame that people who organize a convoy with political provocation ends in 9 dead people. My conclusion is a note to the Israeli and European authorities: you should know better than this and take measures against possible premeditated provocative actions from such unhonored people and their organizations.
